In this Ableton Live 12 Online Course course you will learn how to use Live and it’s most powerful features, whilst learning how to programme and write a full song. The course follows along with the creation of one song so you can see the process from start to finish.
This includes programming drums and instruments, recording and editing audio samples, processing audio with audio effects, music theory, creating bass lines, chords and structuring a song. As well as how to organise your projects, creating a sample library, analysing popular songs, creating your own instruments, simple mixing techniques and mastering.
This course is designed to give you a complete understanding of the music production process and a great foundation to give you the best start with creating your own music.
As part of he course you will also receive our Starter Resource Pack, which contains:
- 1 x Audio Samplepack with 133 Audio Samples that have been processed and mixed to start your sample library and get some high quality sounds into your music.
- 7 x Project Templates that cover some of the most popular genres; Hip-Hop/Rap, House, EDM, Techno, Garage, Dubstep and Drum and Bass. All templates come with a song guide and pre-programmed drum patterns and instruments to help give you ideas for your projects.
- 1 x Preset Pack that comes with 52 instrument presets for Bass, Chords, Leads and Drums. These are used in the templates and span a wide variety of genres.
You will also get a Free 1 Hour Online 121 session with your tutor so you can get some feedback on your projects and ask any questions you’d like about the course or the music production process.

Course Requirements
Software:
- Ableton Live 12 (Required)
There are three versions of Ableton Live 12; Intro, Standard and Suite
To get the most out of this course, it is recommended to get the Suite or Standard editions.
You can still complete the course on the Intro version but it does come with limitations and less features than Standard or Suite. You can check out the differences here.
- Zoom (Required)
The online 121 session you will have with your tutor is hosted on Zoom. You can sign up for a free account here. Once you have signed up download the application and install it on your system.
Equipment:
- Mac OS or Windows, Computer (Required)
You will most likely already have a computer but it is important to check that you meet the minimum requirements to run Ableton Live 12. A good internet connection will be required to view the course and for the Online 121 session too.
- A good pair of Headphones (Recommended)
It is recommended to have a good pair of headphones when creating music as it’s important to be able to hear the whole frequency range, especially as you start to progress your knowledge. Some laptop and phone speakers can’t reproduce the whole frequency range so you may not be able to hear some processing or changes.
